Maggie Robertson's correspondence with the City of Toronto ombud

March 5, 2019, letter from Maggie Robertson to the ombud

I am writing to ask that the city please clear all the sidewalks in the whole City of Toronto of snow and ice. Now the city clears the sidewalks in Etobicoke, North York, York, and Scarborough but not in the old city of Toronto and East York.

As a senior, I find that walking on icy, snowy sidewalks is extremely treacherous and it makes getting to the bus or subway or stores to buy food extraordinarily difficult and often impossible. I’m sure it’s very hard, too, for parents with strollers and small children.

Please have the city clear all the sidewalks in all of Toronto. Now, winter is a season to be dreaded. Please make it a season to be enjoyed.

March 19, 2019, email from the ombud's office

Thank you for contacting Ombudsman Toronto and sharing your concerns related to winter services being provided by the City of Toronto. Your valuable feedback has been recorded.

Our office is closely monitoring the customer service issues that residents have raised concerning the City's snow removal practices.

Mayor Tory has also directed the City's Transportation Services division to conduct a comprehensive review of the City's winter operations and deliver the report's findings to City Council.
