Question from CELOS:

Are vaccination documents (passports etc.) being proposed in Sweden? The Globe's health columnist Andre Picard says that the "two populations" (vaccinated vs. not) should not be allowed to "mingle."

Answer from Deborah: Once a journalist asked Tegnell if domestic vaccine passports would be a possibility, and Tegnell said NO. He said if cases go up again, we would work together as a community to try to bring them down. 👏👏👏

Tegnell also said that they were encouraged by the strong uptake of the vaccine, I don’t believe they expect (with any vaccine) to go over 80% of adults? (Can’t remember the exact number.).

I find it shocking, absolutely shocking, that this argument is being made by in the Globe. Shame on Andre Picard and shame on the Globe!!

Question from reader:

Our CMHO Kieran Moore said there will be different rules for the unvaccinated schoolchildren in September, possibly impacting extra-curricular activities and length of quarantine. How that is being handled in Sweden for children?

Answer from Deborah: The vaccine is available and voluntary for 16+ and for 12-15 with certain medical conditions.

There is no recommendation to vaccinate children.

I notice on the Folkhälsomyndigheten site that they have watered down their language about the vaccine: "Vaccination against covid-19 is one of the tools to alleviate the effects of the pandemic and contribute to fewer people becoming seriously ill. Vaccination is only part of the solution. We need to continue washing our hands, staying home with symptoms and keeping our distance to slow down the infection, even when the covid-19 vaccine is available.”
