*Cost of a lab test:

From City News Oct.3, 2020: "tests done at government run assessment centres, which the Health Ministry tells 680 NEWS is $47.50. That total is intended to include the cost of a swab kit and the lab processing cost but does not include other steps in the testing process such as assessment, swabbing and PPE."

The CityNews story also says that pharmacies are paid $42 per test, "which includes a fee for patient assessment and a specimen collection fee, said to be $20 and $22 respectively." When you add the two numbers to get collection and lab testing you get $89.50 per covid test. So CTV's earlier estimate of $74 per test is probably too low, but we will continue to use that number to calculate the daily cost.
