Wouldn't you know it?

We move from our lovely Hook Avenue office to the Symington/Dupont area only to learn a grade separation project is planned for an area very close to our new location.

It is called Davenport Diamond and it's (supposedly) at the study stage.

There's an open house April 22 at St. Josephat School, 55 Pelham Street, Toronto, Ontario from 5:30 to 8:30.

I think it's a good opportunity for those east of the tracks with respect to the West Diamond project (Hook Avenue) to have another chance to intersect with GO Transit on the whole subject of the grade separation. It's also relevant, I would guess, to those interested in the airport link as it's likely all part of the same process that will result in those 300 trains per day.....

The questions for the Davenport Diamond open house seem to me to be:

1. What is the nature of the "grade separation"? Is it the same as West Diamond? 2 Have they awarded a contract for the construction? 3. Will they be doing pile driving? 4. What technology will be employed? i.e., the same diesel-explosion method as West Diamond? 5. Are they taking into consideration the lessons learned from the West Diamond grade separation with respect to the impact on the neighbourhoods? 6. Are they cognizant of the fact that businesses and employees suffer as much as homeowners because they are on premises during construction hours? That is, industrial areas suffer just as much as residential areas from noise and vibration.

Please turn up. Please have your say.

At last night's DIGIN meeting, Chris Gallop from Adam Giambrone's office provided the flyer that I have posted here:

GO Transit is planning another rail grade separation project for where the Newmarket / Barrie train corridor crosses the CP North Toronto corridor. This is the railway intersection just north-west of Lansdowne and Dupont.

I haven't found any more information about this online yet, and have emailed the contacts listed on the flyer.

The Open House meeting is next Wednesday April 22, 5:30-8:30pm at St. Josaphat School, 55 Pelham St.

We need about 20 volunteers to take 10 flyers each and put them up on posts or in stores in the affected areas. If each person takes 10 it should only take you 15-20 minutes of your time. We need these up by end of day Saturday as the meeting is on Monday. The place to pick them up is 34 Hook . They will be in a box on the front porch. Just grab them and go...!

Just to reiterate the meeting is on Monday at 7 p.m. at Indian Rd. Crescent public school. If you can please bring with you a letter stating your concerns and greivances concerning the effects of the pile drivers and any damage reports to self or structure. Please sign, date and leave address and contact info on them so they are official. You can also state your greivances at the meeting.

There will also be copies of a new petition to sign that is more officially worded in order that we may presnt this to the Canadian Transportation agency.

Thanks. Please post your name here if you can donate the 15- 20 minutes over the weekend starting tomorrow .
