As of 8.30 a.m. on May 4, 147,593 confirmed positive COVID-19 tests in Toronto have been reported to Toronto Public Health (cumulative from January 2020). Yesterday the published count was 146,614. That would mean an increase of 979 since April 30 (the last reporting day). TPH say that there are 997 new confirmed cases.

Number of people currently hospitalized: 1170 The previous report was 1142. TPH says this is an increase of 65. (Of the people in hospital, 280 are listed in ICU. Previous: 272. Intubated: 150. Previous: 157.

Some months ago I asked about the puzzling math in this section, and the city's COVID RESPONSE TEAM wrote back:

The numbers reflect new hospitalizations day-to-day and the current numbers of people hospitalized. The difference between the numbers means that those persons [from the previous day] are no longer occupying a hospital bed.

So perhaps it means that some patients were discharged and some died and some others were admitted. But only the new admissions are specified.

Number of deaths since April 20: 3130 -- increase listed as 15. Previous day: 3115%
