Some good news neighbours.... GO has agreed to study electrification for all of its rail corridors, including ours. A huge step in the right direction though no news yet on whether the Union Pearson link operated by SNC-Lavalin will also consider electrifying.

Great work Clean Train Coalition and all of those who sent in letters! Keep it up.

Yesterday, Metrolinx announced the launch of a study for the electrification of the entire GO Transit rail system to meet the future transit service demands across the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area.

“The Big Move recommends future Express Rail service throughout the GTHA, for which electrification is an important element. This study is the critical next step. I am very pleased that we are moving forward on this issue in a comprehensive way”, said Rob MacIsaac, Chair of Metrolinx.

We are also establishing an external advisory committee that will be made up of community representatives, riders and independent technical experts, to advise Metrolinx on the Terms of Reference for the study. We will post the membership of the Advisory Committee in the coming weeks on our website. We are beginning work on the study immediately and expect to complete it by 2010.

We will continue to update you about the progress of the study. We are building an improved transit system for the region with your help.

I called katherine hanford's number on Friday and asked for ear protection. They delivered them to my house , no questions asked. Industrial strength yellow earmuffs.( Not good enough, of course.)

Should I put the info on the List? Or will you? The whole street can be decked out in yellow earmuffs... and we can lie down on the tracks...

Is this crazy?...I don't know anymore since I'm home today and the piledrivers are right here..

Community scores major piledriving victory

QUEEN’S PARK - The West Diamond community has scored a major victory in its fight against Go Transit’s piledriving noise.

“I’m pleased to announce that GO Transit has agreed to take concrete steps to reduce the noise. For the residents who have suffered for so long, I am delighted,” said DiNovo.

“This victory should be credited to the immense work performed by the West Diamon Piledrivers Association and community activists who came together and made a difference.”

GO Transit has promised that its sound mitigation measures will be in place by June 8 and will include:

  • Noise shrouds on the pile driving machines which, along with additional sound absorption used around the base of the pile, will reduce noise by 10 decibels or about 50 per cent;
  • A sound absorbing coating on pile driving equipment which will reduce peak sound levels by six decibels;
  • Noise walls, to help screen the noise, which will provide up to a 12 decibel reduction.
